Assistant Professor of Medicine (Cardiology)
Dr. West graduated in June 1995, from Stanford University with a B.S. degree in Biology. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in May 2000. From June 2000 until June 2003, he completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Washington. Following training, he stayed on the UW faculty as an instructor in the Emergency Room at Harborview Medical Center. Dr. West completed both his cardiology and clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowships at the University of Virginia between July 2004 and June 2008. Following training, Dr. West joined the faculty of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2008.
Dr. West’s clinical interests span the spectrum of clinical cardiac electrophysiology including complex catheter ablation (ventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation) and device therapy (pacemakers, defibrillators, and biventricular ICDs).
Dr. West’s research has centered on two main areas: athletic pre-participation screening and the pathophysiology of catheter ablation. His ongoing projects focus on identifying genetic markers for the development of myocardial hypertrophy in athletes. Additionally, he continues to pursue research into the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation ablation.
Dr. West is the author of 6 manuscripts, 6 abstracts, and 2 book chapters.
