Susan Laing, MD joined The University of Texas Health Science Center as the Director of Echocardiography Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute & University of Texas at Houston. She earned her medical degree at the University of the Philippines, Manila, and her Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation-Department of Preventive Medicine, Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.  Dr Laing trained for her internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois and subsequently completed her cardiology fellowship at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois.  She joined the Northwestern Memorial Faculty Foundation, Division of Cardiology, in the Department of Medicine in 1998 as an assistant professor and served as the Director, Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital from 1999 through 2006.


Dr Laing is a Fellow in the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography and the American Heart Association. She serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Journal Reviewer: Journal of American Society of Echocardiography, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation, Annals of Internal Medicine, Archives in Internal Medicine, Journal of Cardiac Failure, and Circulation.  Her professional memberships include the American Heart Association, American Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.


Clinical interests include echocardiography, Prevention, Exercise and Cardiac Rehabilitation, Women’s Health, Novel Contrast Agents for Diagnosis and Therapy. 


Dr Laing’s Current research projects include:“Echogenic Targeted Liposomes for Transfection/Drug Delivery”, National Institutes of Health, Co-Investigator; “Targeted Liposomes for Acoustic Cardiovascular Imaging”, National Institutes of Health Co-Investigator. 


Dr. Laing is the author of 15 manuscripts, 40 abstracts and 1 book chapter.
