Dr. Kantharia is a graduate of Seth G S Medical College, University of Mumbai (Bombay), India.  He received further graduate and postgraduate training in Medicine and Cardiology in the UK and the USA, including fellowship training in Cardiac Electrophysiology from the Hahneman/MCP Allegheny University Hospitals.  Prior to joining the UT-Houston faculty, he served on the faculty of Drexel University College of Medicine, Albert Einstein Medical Center and, most recently, at Ohio State University as Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology Laboratories and Director of the Electrophysiology Fellowship Program.  Dr. Kantharia is an ABIM certified Cardiac Electrophysiologist. 

Dr. Kantharia is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of London, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal Society of Medicine of the United Kingdom, the European Society of Cardiology, and the American College of Cardiology. He is also a member of the American Heart Association, the Heart Rhythm Society, and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.

His special areas of interest and expertise include nonpharmacological therapies including ablation for atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and complex arrhythmias; and implantation of heart rhythm management devices including bi-ventricular defibrillators.

His research interests include arrhythmia mechanisms and clinical trials evaluating new pharmacological agents, designs of catheters, devices and mapping systems.

Dr. Kantharia is the author of 38 original articles, 50 abstracts, 7 invited articles, and 5 book chapters.
